My passion is making baskets out of beads and jewelry. I also make rosaries. I work from my house. I cannot afford to rent a shop. My clients come to the house to buy what they want. However, during the day, I hawk my wares around the area I live in. People love beaded jewelry, so I am able to make a few coins. My work keeps me occupied. I have no time to worry about life issues. I am sure that keeps diseases such as high blood pressure at bay. I often feel God’s presence when I am busy putting the rosary beads together. I am not able to pray when making one, because I am busy concentrating on the work. However, every day at 3 a.m. or 4 a.m., I wake up to pray the rosary. I feel so calm. I feel very happy when I am using my hands to do something worthwhile.

One time, not too long ago, a food critic came through here. And boy, I was four beans—and four beans is a good rating for a restaurant in New Orleans. She took me down to one. I mean, she just tore me to pieces.
